For cities, their lakes and rivers, and everyone who loves them

Stopwatercrisesbeforetheystart.

Aheadwater is an early-warning and response system for city lakes and rivers. It forecasts unsafe water a day ahead, alerts the right people at once, and tracks every case until the water is safe again.

Why it matters

Every day of warning counts

Unsafe water, sanitation and hygiene, in one year:

0
lives lost worldwide
0
lives lost in India
0
lives lost across Europe

A warning that reaches people a day earlier is a chance to keep them safe. That is what Aheadwater is built for.

How it works

From forecast to all-clear

Six steps, one shared picture. Tap any step to see it.

Step 1 of 6

Predict

A model trained on 150,734 bathing-water samples from across Europe gives each site a risk score for the next day, so the city can act before anyone gets in the water.

Tested on a real day

It saw Blaarmeersen coming.

On the morning of 17 May 2021, after a wet weekend in Ghent, our model rated Blaarmeersen lake at 5.5 times its usual risk. The lab sample taken that day confirmed it. The model had never seen a single Ghent sample.

That is the head start Aheadwater gives a city: a warning in the morning, while the lab is still at work.

One Health

Water, animals and people, in one picture

When the water needs care, everyone who looks after it hears at the same moment.

Every lake and river scored each day, with weather rules for algae, oxygen and sewer overflow.

Built on open standards

Speaks the language of health systems.

Every step is stored as HL7 FHIR, on the OneAquaHealth implementation guide. Hospitals, labs and city systems can read a case directly, and the official HL7 validator checks every one.
